My first love in medicine was Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy—a very challenging and rewarding specialty. I was fortunate to work with families from cradle to grave. After practicing Family Medicine while serving active-duty soldiers and their families for more than seven years as a military officer, and 10 years in private practice, it was time for a change.
I became fascinated by a common, destructive thread that spanned generations in the families I was charged to care for. A seemingly unconquerable malady that nearly—or totally—destroyed successful and stable family units: alcoholism and drug addiction.
These destructive maladies even touched my own nuclear family, friends, neighbors, heroes, TV and stage favorites—the list goes on. This was a plague that went all the way back to Noah (yes, that Noah—the one who drank wine to inebriation, as mentioned in the Bible. Methuselah’s grandson. Never mind—I digress).
At this stage in my medical career, I have a special interest in Addiction Medicine, Pain Medicine, Marijuana Studies, and all interrelated aspects of psychoactive research.
